Homes

Vernon House/Chapel

Vernon House is a residential supported homes service for men and women wishing to address their addiction and maintain an abstinent life. The provision is provided by ANEW therapists delivering the REAL programme.

Recovery Homes

Our community homes are 3-bed and 5-bed shared houses for people wishing to remain abstinent and engage in a recovery network. Our experience has shown that they are a great way to support people to live independently in early recovery. This is based on the network ideals of co-production, volunteering, mutual support and community connection.

Therapy

Having a strong support network is key when it comes to overcoming addiction. For some people, this kind of network isn’t available at home and they may benefit more from the support of others with an addiction.

Hearing how others cope, learning interpersonal skills and uncovering how your behaviours can impact other people can all help you on your journey to overcoming addiction.

A professional therapist who monitors the behaviour and progress of the members facilitates group therapy. In contrast to this, support groups and self-help groups may not involve a therapist.

Typically, support groups are made up of people who are experiencing the same issue or concern and meet up to provide each other with emotional support. Group therapy activities may not be involved and the focus is usually on discussion and providing empathy.

Programmes

REAL (Recovery, Education, Abstinent Lifestyle)

REAL is a residential abstinence-based programme offering a holistic approach to addressing addiction and long-term recovery. REAL is based on discovering your true and authentic self through varied group work, counselling and complementary therapies. Individuals can resolve historic trauma, get an understanding of their behaviours and start their path to abstinence.

However, it is through connection with their community and others, including work-based activities, that individuals recovering from addiction have the capacity to self-actualise and discover their true purpose and passions in life. The REAL Programme is conducted over a 12- week period and is split into 3 powerful modules.

1. GETTING REAL
2. CORRECTION & CONNECTION
3. LIVING YOUR POTENTIAL & DISCOVERING YOUR PURPOSE

Mentoring

A person in early recovery is often faced with the need to move on from friends and/or social networks that promote and help sustain their addiction, but has no alternatives to put in their place that support recovery. Peer recovery support can help such peers make new friends and begin to build alternative social networks.

Although the name given to this service activity varies from project to project, the terms ‘mentoring’ or ‘coaching’ refer to a one-on-one relationship in which a peer with more recovery experience than the person served encourages, motivates and supports a peer who is seeking to establish or strengthen his or her recovery.

What do all these people have in common? Although they are at different points in the process of recovering from a substance addiction, each is expressing a need for some form of social support to help them through the process. Equally important, each is also a potential source of social support for others.
